El director del Santa Mónica me invitó a realizar una producción nueva que “analizase críticamente la propia institución como dispositivo de ficción, engaño o ilusión”. Mi propuesta fue intentar aplicar de forma literal, durante el tiempo que durase la muestra, el ideario con el que el Santa Mònica se autodefine actualmente en su web. Suspender las funciones de dirección, colectivizar los sueldos o usar el despacho del director como espacio expositivo eran algunas de las acciones propuestas para llevar el ideario a la práctica.
Como parte del proceso, también invité a reunirse conmigo a todas las personas que trabajan en el centro diariamente, incluyendo a las personas contratadas, las personas becarias y las personas subcontratadas, aunque no todas aceptaron la invitación. Después de escuchar sus aportaciones sobre el ideario del centro y su implementación, se puso de manifiesto la imposibilidad intrínseca de aplicar el discurso a esta realidad institucional, salvo como mero gesto simbólico.
Ante esta realidad, he decidido rescindir el contrato declarando públicamente la aplicación del ideario institucional como acto de contenido imposible, y de esta manera cumplir con el encargo
An Application of Discourse
The director of Santa Monica Arts center invited me to make a new production that would “critically analyse the institution itself as a device of fiction, deception or illusion”. My proposal was to try to take the ideology with which the Santa Mònica currently defines itself on its website and apply it literally for the duration of the exhibition.
Some of the actions proposed to put the ideology into practice were: suspend management functions, collectivise salaries or use the director’s office as an exhibition space, allowing the public to enter the offices.
To carry out the project, I also invited all the people who work at the centre on a daily basis, including contractors, interns and subcontractors, to meet with me, although not all of them accepted the invitation. After listening to their contributions on the ideology of the centre and its implementation, it became clear that it was intrinsically impossible to apply the discourse to this institutional reality, except as a mere symbolic gesture.
Faced with this reality, I decided to terminate the contract by publicly declaring the application of the institutional ideology as an act of impossible content, and, in this way, comply with the director’s request.

Con todo ello, el Santa Mònica apunta hacia una nueva institución más transparente, abierta, accesible, participativa y sostenible, fomentada en la escucha y las curas.
En los próximos años, el Santa Mònica continuará trabajando en una lógica de experimentación curatorial, de nueva producción, colectivización y desjerarquización, apostando por la performatividad, los formatos participativos y contenidos críticos que interpelen a la ciudadanía y conecten con el público joven, reafirmando así su compromiso con la comunidad artística y cultural catalana, y dialogando con la escena internacional.
With all these initiatives, Santa Mònica aims to become a more transparent, open, accessible, participatory, and sustainable institution, based on listening and care.
In the coming years, Santa Mònica will continue to operate within a framework of curatorial experimentation, new production, collective processes, and de-hierarchization. It will place a strong emphasis on performativity, participatory formats, and critical content that engages citizens and connects with younger audiences—thus reaffirming its commitment to the Catalan artistic and cultural community, while engaging in dialogue with the international scene.

Acte de contingut impossible
Adm. Acte que es considera nul de ple dret. Pot ser una impossibilitat física o lògica si l’acte incorre en contradiccions, ambigüitats o formulacions inintel·ligibles.
La impossibilitat ha de ser «de caràcter material o físic, ja que una impossibilitat de caràcter jurídic equivaldria pràcticament a il·legalitat de l’acte que sol comportar anul·labilitat […]; la impossibilitat ha de ser, així mateix, originària, ja que una impossibilitat sobrevinguda comportaria una simple ineficàcia de l’acte. Actes nuls per tenir un contingut impossible són, per tant, els que resulten completament inadequats a la realitat física sobre la qual recauen. Són també de contingut impossible els actes que tanquen una contradicció interna en els seus termes (impossibilitat lògica) per oposar-se a les lleis físiques inexorables o al que racionalment es considera insuperable» (STS, 3a, 11-IV-2013, rec. 2200/2010)*.
Act of impossible content
Adm. Act considered null and void. It may be a physical or logical impossibility if the act involves contradictions, ambiguities or unintelligible formulations.
The impossibility must be “of a material or physical nature, since an impossibility of a legal nature would be practically equivalent to the illegality of the act, which usually entails annulment […]; the impossibility must also be original, since a supervening impossibility would simply render the act ineffective. Acts void for having an impossible content are, therefore, those that are completely inadequate to the physical reality on which they fall. Acts that contain an internal contradiction in their terms (logical impossibility) because they are opposed to the inexorable physical laws or to what is rationally considered insurmountable are also of impossible content” (STS, 3.ª, 11-IV-2013, rec. 2200/2010)*.
